Why the United States should offer Haiti an opportunity to be an official state.
1) Haiti has been a disaster for almost two hundred years - the recent disaster has served to showcase this to the world.
2) We are going to invest mountains of time, energy, and money and then hand it back to the corrupt government that created it?
3) The United States is going to be heavily involved in their political decisions regardless.
4) We have hijacked a lot of spots on earth - from Alaska to Hawaii - Haiti is next door
5) We all just got lucky and talk about the price of gasoline and they don't have a sewer system in their capital city.
6) We are heavily responsible for the terrible condition Haiti has been in for the past fifty years - we have meddled in everything there ultimately doing nothing for the people and allowing inhumane conditions to exist and thrive under the governments we installed.
7) They deserve the choice, and we all know how they are going to vote.
8) Bring back CCC type work corps to get things started - we may learn from this too... and it would certainly set a better example of US foreign policy than simply flying around with bombers.
We can offer them a trial membership perhaps - vote now, vote again in ten years? whatever... we are America, we are flexible.
We're a few random Americans picking up the pulse of the the Internet.
We're the millions of people who need to see a platinum lining on the disaster in Haiti.
We're Haitians asking the United States to take over as reported in the Washington Post
We're the people who have been wondering what would happen to shake the world to its senses
We're people who believe that it's time to go the distance with our neighbor while remembering how fortunate we all are to share this spec of a planet.
